Low–temperature Expansion for a First Order Surface Transition
The question concerning the possibility of a first order surface transition in a semi–infinite Blume–Capel model is addressed by means of low temperature expansions. It is found that such a transition can exist, according to mean field and cluster variation approximations, and contrarily to renormalization group results.
متن کاملInstantons and Surface Tension at a First-order Transition
We study the dynamics of the first order phase transition in the two dimensional 15-state Potts model, both at and off equilibrium. We find that phase changes take place through nucleation in both cases, and finite volume effects are described well through an instanton computation. Thus a dynamical measurement of the surface tension is possible. We find that the order-disorder surface tension i...
متن کاملFirst Studies for a Low Temperature Higher-order-mode Absorber for the Cornell Erl Prototype
Cornell University, in collaboration with Jefferson Laboratory, has proposed the construction of a prototype energyrecovery linac (ERL) to study the energy recovery concept with high current, low emittance beams [1]. The beam with a current of up to 100 mA will excite significant higher-order-mode (HOM) power in the superconducting (s.c.) RF cavities with frequencies up to 100 GHz. Strong dampi...
متن کاملFirst-order transition of a compartmentalized surface model for fluid membranes
Dynamically triangulated surface model is found to undergo a first-order crumpling transition between the smooth phase and a crumpled phase. Triangulated spheres are divided into compartmentalized domains, whose boundary bonds remain unflipped in the Monte Carlo simulations. The vertices can freely diffuse only inside the compartments, and they are prohibited from the free diffusion over the su...
متن کاملA first-order Mott transition in LixCoO2.
Despite many years of experimental searches for a first-order Mott transition in crystalline-doped semiconductors, none have been found. Extensive experimental work has characterized a first-order metal-insulator transition in Li(x)CoO(2), the classic material for rechargeable Li batteries, with a metallic state for x < 0.75 and insulating for x > 0.95. Using density functional theory calculati...
